Position: Associate Programmer
Description: Provides challenging opportunities to contribute to important company goals such as increased sales, enhanced customer service, and expense reduction. Responsibilities include developing, maintaining, and supporting software for new and existing systems. Work may be required on all aspects of software development such as analyzing business and designing, programming, testing, and documenting software. On-site training will be provided.
Skills: The ability to analyze information and logically solve complex problems. The ability to learn and use new programming languages and new software development techniques. The ability to work on a team. The ability to communicate effectively.

The z/VM operating system originated during the era of traditional mainframe computing as one of the major operating systems for IBM's mainframes. Business applications were written to run directly on z/VM. In today's computing environment, the I/T industry is increasingly running their business applications on Linux. In addition, they are exploring virtualization technologies, which enable them to run multiple copies of Linux on one server in order to consolidate, reduce costs, and reduce complexity. One of the unique strengths of z/VM is that its design has always centered around virtualization, so that a large number of independent virtual servers can coexist on one real System z mainframe. Therefore, z/VM is suited to play a role in this new environment as well. Our customers can run hundreds or even thousands of Linux servers on one System z mainframe using z/VM. The z/VM development organization is based in Endicott, the birthplace of IBM. We perform the design, coding, testing, and maintenance activities for z/VM. We are currently interviewing for multiple positions in the areas of software development, testing, and customer service.
Endicott is a suburb of Binghamton, New York. Although it is a small city, Binghamton offers a range of cultural activities, such as theatre, symphony, and opera. We have an AHL hockey team and a AA baseball team. A number of ski areas are nearby. Housing costs are quite low, as is the crime rate. Binghamton is centrally located for easy travel to New York City, the Finger Lakes region, Philadelphia, New England, and other interesting places.
